November 2026 | How to Store Wine Properly
This is how fine wines reveal their full aroma

A good wine deserves to be stored properly. Even high-quality wines can lose their flavor and quality if the temperature, light, or humidity aren't right. By creating the right conditions, you can best preserve the aromas of your favorite wine and ensure that it reaches its full potential when you enjoy it.
The most important requirements for fine wines
Perfect wine storage at a glance

Consistent temperatures are crucial
Wine is sensitive to temperature fluctuations. For long-term storage, a temperature as consistent as possible between 10 and 14 °C is considered ideal. Significant fluctuations cause the wine to age more quickly and can even lead to the cork leaking, allowing oxygen to enter the bottle. Temperatures above 20 °C significantly accelerate the aging process and can impair the wine’s delicate aromas.
With a wine refrigerator from CASO Design, wine lovers are in safe hands: Depending on the model, these wine coolers feature one or two separate cooling zones, each of which can be individually adjusted—from 5 to 20 degrees—for red or white wine. This creates an optimal long-term environment for these precious wines. Active ventilation circulates the air in each storage zone, ensuring a uniform temperature. These are the ideal conditions for wine to age optimally and develop its unique character!

The Right Storage Location
The ideal storage location is:
- cool
- dark
- low-vibration
- well-ventilated
Direct sunlight and bright light should be avoided at all costs, as UV rays can negatively affect the quality of the wine. CASO Design wine refrigerators provide optimal storage conditions.
The Right Humidity Level
A humidity level of about 60 to 75% helps keep natural corks flexible. If the environment is too dry, the cork can dry out and allow air to enter the bottle. Conversely, excessive humidity promotes mold growth on labels and packaging.

Store Bottles on Their Sides
Wine bottles with natural corks should always be stored on their sides. This ensures the cork remains in constant contact with the wine and does not dry out. Bottles with screw caps, on the other hand, can be stored upright without any problems.
The Ideal Serving Temperature for Maximum Enjoyment
Not only storage conditions but also serving temperature significantly affects a wine’s flavor. Wines that are too cold often seem closed off and lack aroma, while wines that are too warm lose their freshness and appear more alcoholic.
