Preparation for the perfect espresso

The basis for a successful espresso starts with the right preparation. Make sure that the appliance, the accessories and the coffee grinder are always clean. Only use fresh, cold drinking water to fill the water tank and switch the appliance on. An important step is to preheat the cups or glasses. Place them on the cup plate of the CASO Espresso Gourmet Latte so that they reach the ideal temperature. Select only fresh espresso beans for the grinding process and use a high-quality coffee grinder, such as the CASO BaristaChef Inox, to preserve the full aroma.

The grinding process and the importance of the grind

A key aspect of espresso preparation is the correct grind of the coffee beans. Only grind as much coffee as you need for the preparation, as ground coffee quickly loses its aroma. For a classic espresso (20-30 ml), we recommend around 7 g of ground coffee. For a double espresso or two cups, it should be around 14 g. The grind determines the extraction and therefore the aroma of your espresso. A grind that is too fine can lead to excessive bitterness, while a grind that is too coarse makes the espresso too acidic. Thanks to the CASO BaristaChef Inox coffee grinder, the grind can be precisely adjusted so that you can always grind the optimum amount of powder directly into the portafilter.

The special feature of the double-walled portafilter inserts

The CASO Espresso Gourmet Latte is equipped with double-walled portafilter inserts that make it easier to prepare a perfect espresso. These inserts consist of two connected sieves through which the water flows more slowly. As a result, optimum brewing pressure is achieved even with coarsely ground coffee, resulting in an espresso with a rich crema. This function is particularly practical if you are using pre-ground coffee. Before the actual preparation, you should heat the machine to the optimum espresso temperature by running a cycle without ground coffee. This not only ensures a hot machine, but also pre-heated cups.

Correct roping for the perfect espresso

Tamping the coffee powder evenly and firmly is crucial for the quality of your espresso. Make sure that the coffee powder is evenly distributed in the portafilter and pressed down firmly with a tamper. The contact pressure should be around 15 kg, which can ideally be checked with a kitchen scale. A well-tamped coffee creates the perfect resistance for the water, resulting in a balanced and aromatic espresso. Light tamping results in a watery, less aromatic espresso, while strong tamping produces an intense aroma.
